Uganda peoples congress (UPC) is to conduct its parliamentary primary elections within the remaining 10 districts on 26th/09/2020.
This revelation made on 23rd Wednesday by party electoral commission boss Hajji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud Akiki at party headquarters Kampala saying, these 10 districts are the ones which have no parliamentary flag bearers currently which include among others Lira, Dokoro, Otuke, Lira city, Apac, Amoltar, Albtongo, Kwania, Oyam, whereby elections will be conducted with the observance of Covid 19 guidelines.
“We are to conduct party parliamentary primary elections within 10 districts to get flag bearers starting from 9:00 am and ending at 2:00pm, and the voting method is by secrete ballot,” Mahmoud added.
Asked why these elections will be conducted within 10 districts only, Mahmoud responded that, in the rest of other districts, they have flag bearers on the same level because many people stepped down to leave their comrades to move forward without elections, however he said that, in these 10 districts, its where stiff competition exists due to large number of UPC supporters and they have to also get flag bearers through elections as its elsewhere.
Its remembered that, on the 24the of June 2020, UPC released its electoral roadmap which commenced with LC3 chairpersons and their councillors, Mayors and their Councilors, and District chairpersons and their councilors.
In the same vein, Mahmoud urged all party members who didn’t succeed in the just recent party concluded primaries to join hands with flag bearers to ensure UPC success.
Meanwhile, following the latest fire outbreak at Makerere University, that destroyed the main administration building known as “main building” Mahmoud urged government to work towards upgrading fire fighting equipments to meet the challenges of 21st century such as acquiring airborne capability of containing fire with the help of specially designed planes or choppers among others measures.
” Our approach should look beyond into potential areas that are a source of fire outbreaks, fore stance; quite a number of lights, medium and heavy industries are starting to be located in densely populated areas of human settlement,” he said.
