Uganda Revenue Authority-URA has resolved that spot checks should only be conducted on goods entering Kikuubo not every shop as has been the case in the past one week.
URA Commissioner General John Rujoki Musinguzi announced the decision in Downtown- Kikuubo while addressing traders on Electronic fiscal receipting and invoicing (EFRIS ) usage and Digital Tax Stamps (DTS) .
The engagement with Kikuubo traders on 27th October 2023 highlighted the power of dialogue in finding solutions .
Musinguzi says by listening to each other, the URA and traders can discuss mutual concerns and agree on a way forward with EFRIS usage.
According to URA , EFRIS is meant to improve business efficiencies and reduce the cost of ensuring compliance.
This is through improved record keeping among tax payers and mitigate tax administration shortfalls while promoting compliance efficiency.
The intention of the URA is partly to manage challenges such as suppression of sales, non-issuance of tax receipts or invoices, curb false refund claims, fictitious purchases with no physical movement of goods and unverifiable claims by taxpayers due to loss of records.
The two systems help the tax body track down the payment of taxes right from production to the final consumer.
He tasked the URA teams to ensure that traders are well sensitized before enforcement ensues, and added that Digital Tax Stamps costs decrease as usage increases.
