Victoria University Kampala, better known in the education sector for transforming experimental learning, has started offering Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) accredited courses.
The University announced on its official digital channels that the UBITEB accredited courses immediately available include the Certificates in Hotel and Institutional Catering, that of Clearing and Forwarding, Tourism and Hospitality Management and that of Journalism and Media Studies. Other certificates available include;- Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and Agriculture Studies.
All are awarded after a two-year period. The UBITEB courses are gateway to critical skills training for Ugandans especially in vocational and practical professions, critical to the country’s economic transformation.
The intervention comes especially as a relief to learners who probably may have not secured direct entry into A ‘level or University, after completing their O’ or A’ Level examinations.
“We have identified a pressing issue. Many students’ futures are compromised by financial hurdles or an educational emphasis on grades over competencies at O & A levels,” officials say.
“Some students graduate from certain universities, with no skills to navigate the world of work. To address this, we are launching highly practical and hands-on UBTEB-accredited certificate programmes focused on skill development and practical knowledge,” VU Admission officials said in their statement accompanying the announcement.
According to Victoria University, these programmes not only prepare students for immediate employment but also offer pathways to further education, including diploma and degree courses.
“They are also ideal for graduates seeking to enhance their skills set,” VU says.
