Mamelodi Sundowns v Vipers SC

TUKS Stadium, Pretoria, South Africa

In a build up to the 2023/24 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, Vipers Sports Club are scheduled to take on African football kingpins Mamelodi Sundowns in a significant international friendly.

The match between the Ugandan champions and Masandawana is scheduled for Wednesday, August 16th, 2023 at the University of Pretoria – TUKS Stadium at 3pm (4pm EAT).

It will be just four days before the Venoms take on Botswana outfit Jwaneng Galaxy in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

Vipers will then connect directly from South Africa to Botswana for the Sunday encounter at the National Stadium in Gaborone.

The Sundowns are fresh from a 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday August 9, 2023 in a game that they truly dominated and Vipers coach Leonard Martins Neiva will get value for money in the practice match that will surely before a perfect preparation outing for his charges against one of the finest teams on the continent.

Sundowns, also home to former Uganda Cranes skipper Dennis Masinde Onyango, have won 16 Premier Soccer League (PSL) titles and one CAF Champions League gong.

They also boast a CAF Super Cup crown, four MTN 8 Cups, four SA Telkom Knockout Championships and six Nedbank Cup diadems.

Vipers are aiming at making a stronger showing at the continent, having made the group stages last season after eliminating powerhouses TP Mazembe.

The relevancy of the preparation match against Mamelodi Sundowns cannot be underscored enough as Vipers pathway to this edition’s group stages does potentially have a South African outfit in Orlando Pirates.
