The Lord Mayor His Worship Erias Lukwago contributed Two Million Shillings (Ushs2,000,000/-) towards the rehabilitation and maintenance of Wakaliga Community Spring Well which has been in a deplorable state! This Spring Well had been last repaired in the year 2005 with funds from the Government of Uganda, Government of France and Kampala City Council under the Kampala Urban Sanitation Project then. Today the Lord Mayor revisited this well to inspect work in progress, he asked them to ensure that they also preserve a green lawn and plant some trees around.

In Kampala, only 341,841 have access to piped water while 3,864 use boreholes, this is 82.5% and 0.9% respectively. This means that a lot needs to be done in the area of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

Statistics show that 53.6% of the urban population in Kampala live in slum areas settings and disease trends portray them as prone to diarrheal disease attributed to consumption of contaminated water.

Water being a necessity n life, the Lord Mayor who is also the President Platform of the Network of Mayors of Kampala City, Wakiso District and Mukono Municipality on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Environmental Integrity has always appealed to have the mandate of Cities and or Municipalities in the area of water and sewerage management widened. This will enable them push the agenda enshrined in SDG 6 which is; Clean water and sanitation.
