USSSA Qualifiers Wakiso District Regional schools Championship for 2024 has climaxed on Sunday at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium Wakiso.
Wakiso District sports giant schools at least each walk away with a trophy in different categories.
St Noa Girls School Zzana scooped a double as they crowned basketball girls and football girls champions. The side beat giants St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende in girls basketball, 67-49 in final to stop a three years’ Kitende’s dominance in the sport.
The Zzana based school also defeated Rinnes SS in girls football 2-1 to reclaim their lost glory. Tagy High School were the defending champion but failed to defend the title after as they were exited in the quarters.
Meanwhile, St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende retained the football boys trophy after defeating arch rivals, Buddo SS by 1-0 to defend their title with Hassan Mubiru scoring the goal in the first half.
Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa the St. Mary’s SS Kitende director cautioned the boys to remain focused while addressing the triumphant team. “We should remain focused and avoid excitement. All our focus should now shift to the National Championship in Masaka.” Mulindwa said
Buddo SS was the other winner after keeping boy basketball trophy by beating Mbogo Mixed with James Obrac rising the bars to become Championships Most Valuable Male best player.
For female category St Noa Girls Big man Zoe Atek was the most valuable basketball player while Sylvia Kabene from St Noa was the top scorer and the most valuable player in girls football.
Kawanda SS girls team was another team to get gold medal taking Badminton trophy as Kinaawa High School’s Boys take boys category.
The championship also had other winners as Mbogo Mixed secondary School were champions of Girls table tennis, while Ubuntu Hill School winning boys table tennis and St Mary’s College Kisubi Winning the Hockey
Championship as well.
