The Buganda Prime minster Owek Charles Peter Mayiga expressed full hope that the kingdom will oneday achieve its federal so that it gets shares of the taxes collected to run its business on its own for its development.
Owek. Mayiga noted this while meeting the schools around Singo, Kyadondo and Bulemeezi counties who came to Bulange Mengo to deliver their contribution under the luwalo lwange project for the kingdom development.
Speaking to the congregation who gathered at the function, Owek Mayiga called upon the people in Buganda to work together so that they can achieve the federal system as this will help the kingdom to work on their own business independently.
He congratulated the Kasana Luwero diocese for being given a new Bishop of the diocese, bishop Lawrence Mukasa and commended Msgr Francis Xavier Mpanga for caretaking over the diocese for a period of 1and half years before the consecration of the new Bishop.
“We need to be good examples to the young generation and groom all the children when knowing their culture and norms and learn more about their clans so that it helps them to safe guard their kingdom and the throne in future “. The Katikkiro noted.
However, the Katikkiro stressed that the Luwalo gatherings help the Buganda people say children, religious leaders, politicians among others to come together as one family and enable them ponder the way forward for the kingdom as one family and therefore urged them to keep gathering on such functions.
The Katikkiro as well urged parents to support their children’s education irrespective of their gender or physical disabilities but to take them all to school. He went ahead and discouraged parents from sending their children into early marriages since it destroys their future.
Meanwhile, Owek Mayiga appealed to school children to be well prepared to take over the running of the kingdom and the country after their elders which can be done through knowing their culture and norms, being well disciplined, working hard to learn new things and being serious with their education to achieve their dreams.
He reported to the Katikkiro that schools from Bulemeezi, Ssingo and Kyadondo have contributed over 21million shillings towards Luwalo lwange project with Mumsa high school being the best contributors with 6million shillings.
