The arch bishop of church of Uganda, the Right Rev. Bishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu advised all the women in Uganda to plant a trees when they conceive and when they produce babies to restore the environment.
His grace said that during an occasion held at the Uganda media centre on Saturday March 27th 2021 hosted by World Wild Life(WWF) for the campaign “Earth Hour today”, to restore our environment , Arch bishop Kazimba Mugalu advised Uganda to restore our environment and to make Uganda green again.
” For the Woman it is advisable when you conceive, it is responsible to plant a tree and when you produce also plant another one for good of future, For the men also when you pregnante a lady also plant a tree to restore our environment”, Kazimba Mugalu advising Ugandans.
” Before we go in the heaven we should ensure that our planet is restored, we as the church leaders we are going to put the period from 8:30-9:00am as the time to think about our environment. And every activity done at the church trees must be planted “.
” Over 25 years that climate change has been on the world’s agenda, global emissions have risen unchecked, plastic pollution is now becoming a global pandemic. In the past 10 years , we have made more plastic than the last century by 2050 the population of fishes will be out numbered by the amount of plastic little in the water bodies “, Kazimba stated.
Bishop Kazimba also advised Ugandans to switch off from wasteful cooking methods that take a lot of charcoal and firewood leading to the increased deforestation , to support our mothers get access to efficient and renewable cooking technologtechnologies affordable by exempting them from taxation.
However, the minister of water and environment Hon Sam Cheptoris, promise to bring back the glory of Uganda to glory rettain the glory of Pearl of Africa.
“Does Uganda still deserve to be the pearl of Africa , when church Hill came back can still call Uganda a Pearl of Africa.Uganda was beautiful country with animals , mountains , green cover , a lot of insects, wetlands but now our environment are enriched by illegally people who pollutes our environment”, Minister Sam stated.
” The government starts the campaign of planting about 40m tree spices in order to restore our environment ,the government also gears up for the next five years , are going to provides a momentous opportunity for further prioritization of environment and sustainable development agenda at the fore front of all government programs “, minister added.
It is disheartening to note that 300 million tons of plastic gets created yearly , and this weighs the same as the entire human population.
As we commemorate Earth Hour today, let us resolve not only to raise our voices but also take actions for nature recovery and switch off habits such as using plastic bags and bottles and damping them carelessly and refuse to use the single use plastic and reduce the amount of plastic entering in our environment every second and switch off from deforestation and purpose to plant trees to make Uganda green again.
However, protecting and restoring nature is a huge challenge and no single acted can achieve this alone.
We are therefore grateful to WWF , the scouts movement all other players who have joined the government who have rallied all UgandaUgandan to commit to work together on finding and driving the solution in an equitable way, and the plan needed is clear, safeguard our planet’s remaining natural spaces, stop the loss of species and decline of wild life population whilst protecting the diversity of life.
Reversing the loss of nature aalso holds the key to our prosperity and it is the only way to secure livelihoods and the vast majority of our economic activity that dependent on the natural world.
However, time is running out for us to save the planet our only home.
