The women of Uganda Network has trained women, journalists and Women Human Rights Defenders on issues concerning digital security, Online campaigning, digital storytelling and using digital technologies for effective advocacy.

According to Policy research, one to three Uganda women who use the internet have experienced online Gender-based violence which is one of the reasons that attracted WOUGNET to train these groups specially women, on how to keep safe online, to avoid the negative consequences.

During the training that took place at Fairway hotel in Kampala, the executive director for WOUGNET Sandra Aceng noted that the reason they came up with this training is to equip women and other groups with essential knowledge on digital security which is vital in ensuring security especially on online platforms.

Sandra added that digital story telling can easily reach people in different parts of the country since many people currently use online platforms to access information and urged participants to use the skills they have acquired from the training to impact others especially through advancing the rights of women in the country.

One of the facilitators Aidah Bukubuza highlighted on digital security and urged people to be very vigilant in issues concerning their digital presence. She pointed out that people should avoid posting their locations at a particular time since it has been one of the leading causes of people who fall victims of harm after making it easy for themselves to be tracked. She also warned parents on the dangers of posting their children on social media as it puts them in the open space of being kidnapped or helping enemies to fulfill any other objectives.

Among the topics she covered include digital security, feminist internet, Online Gender-based violence, secure connection among others.

Another facilitator Daphne Nakabugo who trained on digital storytelling emphasized the importance of online campaigning as it can easily reach people in different areas.
