WONDERFUL GRAND REGIONAL CYCLING RACE AT LUBIRI, AZIZ LOSSES AS BUSOGA REGION DOMINATE

The one day Grand regional race which was organised by Together we can cycling association Uganda came to an end with massive attendance from the fans.

The event started at 9:30 am with the old and female category for two laps (7km) and later with the elite category in 30 laps (105 km) and the event ended at 1pm with winners in various category being awarded with honours.

The event was massively attended by fans from different parts of the country, who came to support their stars.

The event was highly dominated by cyclists from Busoga as Aziz Sempijja, (National champion) who at first was the favourites to win this race was unable to finish the race due to mechanical problem.

Solomon Ssabakaki aka manager Solo, the managing director of Together we can cycling Uganda, thanked the fans who highly attended the event and argue them to come again in the next event, probably next year. Solomon, went on to say that this event was for the preparation of the Pearl of Africa tour due to next year in March when countries from abroad will attend.

Cohen Kasirye, the manager of Aziz Sempijja, put this failure of his boy to clinch the championship to Jonah whom he said that he failed to bring the spare parts for his boy’s bicycle from abroad after all he was paid 7 million to do this job.

Aziz Sempijja, after the race addressed the press that his failure to win was due to mechanical problem.

Shafic Hama, who was the champion of the day addressed the press that his win was due to hard working and he was meant to go to Kenya for the race but missed to some problems and later decided to compete in the race where he eventually won.

In old people category, ssalongo Bukenya from Masaka won the race and he was given 200, 000 shillings as prize money and a medal.

In ladies category, Evelyn Nakato won the race and she was given 200, 000 shillings as prize money.

In Elite category,  Shafic Hama from Busoga won the race and was given a land title from century properties,  Muslimu Kiwanuka came second and won himself boda motorcycle,  Peter Waswa came third and won a bull,  Sam Sebagwanyi came fourth and won a sofa set and Ronald Kyakuwa came fifth and won a fridge.

The grand awarding ceremony will be for next Sunday at Serena hotel with winners awarded their prize gifts.
