The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has cautioned people not to wait to be given but to work hard and sustain themselves so that they can get chance to improve their livelihood without depending on other people’s conditions.

During the time he dedicated to visit the coffee farmers in Mwererwe and Buwambo villages Kyadondo County under the Mwanyi Terimba project, Owek. Mayiga said that, people who wait to be given support do not progress since they don’t come up with their own ideas but depend on the orders of the donors. He noted that if they are to receive anything from the donors, they should be adding on what they have but not to be given everything.

Owek Mayiga advised coffee farmers to come up with creative ideas of their own and endeavor to work hard to back these ideas so that they can develop themselves socially, and financially especially through working together.

The Katikkiro has as well launched the coffee farmers Sacco which consist of people with small businesses called Waden Sacco and cautioned people under this Sacco to be transparent in whatever they do as a way of attracting more people to join them and at the same time meet the objectives of the Sacco, siting financial improvement.

However, Owek Mayiga challenged parents to encourage their children to engage in farming as a way of improving their lives. He noted that most children think that farming is for the illiterate saying that they should teach them that even with high education qualifications they can still engage in farming because it is a good source of income.

The Kingdom premier Owek. Mayiga inspected Mr. Charles Kazibwe’s coffee farm in Mwereerwe, Gombe subcounty, and encouraged farmers to work on their homes to modernise them so that they impress others to join farming business.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom spokesperson Owek. Israel Kazibwe Commended the premier for the development ideas in the Kingdom such as Mwanyi terimba Project which has helped many people to engage in farming and overcome poverty among themselves.

He appealed to the Sacco members to set a program that will help them to streamline the running of the Sacco so that everything done within the Sacco is put in records. He encouraged them to consult different Buganda kingdom departments to get more ideas on how to run joint ventures so that they don’t fall into the trap of making losses due to poor management.
