Buganda kingdom to celebrate the youth day

Buganda kingdom through the minister for youth, sports and talents Owek. Robert Sserwanga Salongo has revealed that the kingdom is set to commemorate the Kingdom youth day on 1st December 2023.

According to Owek. Sserwanga, the Kingdom last commemorated the youth day in Busujju in 2019, but this youth day is to be celebrated in Bulemeezi Bbowa and the celebrations are to begin with different activities ahead of the final commemoration.

Addressing the press at his office in Bulange Mengo, Owek Ssalongo Sserwanga emphasised that the kingdom chose to celebrate this day on the national AIDs day because the Buganda King His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the II has been spearheading the fight against HIV/ AIDs in the country as He gave a directive to the youth and men to lead the campaign to reduce the spread of the virus in Buganda Kingdom and the country at large.

Buganda youth leader Baker Ssejjengo has called upon the youth leaders alover the kingdom to moblise the youth in all the 18 counties, and 175 sub counties in the kingdom to be part of the commemoration since this day’s theme is targeting them to lead the fight against AIDs in the Kingdom and the country.

He urged institutions at different levels to encourage the youth to take part in the different activities that are to take place ahead of the final day.

The Chairman for the organising committee Mulwana Kizito noted that among the activities they have planned ahead of the final commemoration day, they will have a legal camp which is aimed at helping people in Bulemeezi to learn more about issues concerning land since they have for along time been struggling with land wrangles.

He added that they are to have an health camp aimed at offering people free health services and they also plan to campaign for blood donation, then give out mosquito nets for people to protect themselves against malaria, among other activities.

This year’s youth camp is to be commemorated under the Theme; The youth to protect themselves against HIV/AIDs to build our country.
