How Speaker Among, CAF President Meeting Birthed Uganda’s AFCON Pamoja Bid

Uganda will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a successful East African Pamoja Bid that was announced on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.

The foundation to this historic milestone was laid down on 15th July 2022 when Speaker, Rt Hon Anita Among hosted CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who was in the country for a two-day working visit.

During the meeting with Dr. Motsepe at her office, Speaker Among initiated and expressed Uganda’s ambition to host AFCON in 2027 in a bid to deepen East African integration through nurturing and promoting sports.

Indeed, Dr. Motsepe encouraged the Speaker to pursue the bid for the good of sports tourism in the country.

It is not a surprise that the once-blurring dream has now become a reality!

Meanwhile Speaker Among delighted as she congratulated her boss and the entire region for success achieved’
