Mukono Diocese celebrates 39 years of existence, Tayebwa lays a foundation stone to construct a new cathedral

Deputy speaker of Parliament the Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa has challenged people to stay away from religious conflicts and look at religion as away of promoting unity among God’s people.

He mentioned this as he was a chief guest at the thanksgiving service of 39 years of the existence of Mukono Diocese and laying a foundation stone for the construction of the new cathedral and at the same time celebrating 1 year of service for the bishop of Mukono Diocese the Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo.

Hon Tayebwa called upon people to use religion to promote unity among themselves but not promoting divisions and conflicts. He as well urged Christians to endeavor giving back to the Lord as this is the only way of expressing appreciation towards God for providing.

While leading the thanksgiving service, the Archbishop of the church of Uganda His Grace Dr. Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu arged Christians in Mukono to take part in the construction of the new Cathedral knowing that they are doing it for their own good as the Lord will richly bless them.

The Director for Foundation of Human rights initiative and Chairman for the construction committee of the new cathedral Dr. Livingstone Ssewanyana commended all the people who have contributed towards the new cathedral and appreciated the Archdeacon, priests and lay readers for mobilizing people through the 20k Tuzimbe Lutikko campaign as people have managed to contribute over 100 million shillings. He pledged on behalf of the committee to complete the construction in a period not more than 4 years.

According to Dr. Ssewanyana, this cathedral requires over 10 billions and the President of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni contributed 20 million shillings for the start and Hon Tayebwa contributed 10 millions, topping on the 100 millions contributions from the Christians.

The function was attended by retired Bishops such as Bishop Jackson Matovu, Bishop Dunstan Bukenya, widow to the late Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo Maama Ruth Nkoyoyo, Diocesean Chancellor Prof Dorcus Nagitta, Archdeacons and their wives, Mukono Muslim region Khadhi among other dignitaries.
