THE 30 EDITION OF NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY IS SET FOR SATURDAY

The 30 edition of the National Cross Country is set for this Saturday, 10, February at the Golf course, Tororo.The event will start at exactly 9am according to the publicity secretary Abdallah Muhammed.

This event is aimed at selecting the National team for the World Cross Country Championships due 30, April in Belgrade, Serbia and C.A.A Africa Cross Country Championships in Tunisia on 25, February, 2024.

It’s one of the exciting event because it brings out the renewed domestic rivalry of our clubs especially the forces like Police, U.W.A ,Prisons and UPDF and it’s a golden opportunity for the people of Tororo to see their World stars like Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo compete at home.

The teams which will compete for this edition have been registering on line and the process ends today, Wednesday, 7,February and so far 15 clubs, districts, schools and universities have registered including ; Police, Prisons, UPDF,KCCA,Lukungu academy, Kids of Africa, Kyenjojo secondary school, Mountain of the moon university, Sironko, Adjumani, Zombo and Arua.

According to Abdallah, this time we intend to use our electronic timer device for the roads and Cross Country for this event.

The prize money for the winners are as follows;

The winner in men and women, each will walk away with 500,000 shillings,  second will walk away with 300,000, third with 200,000, fourth with 150,000 and fifth with 100,000 and the races to be competed will include;  2km short race women, 2km short race men, Juniors women under 20 -6km, Senior women – 10km, Masters women [35years and above] -8km and Masters men [35 years and above] -1okm.

“I appeal to all Ugandans to come on large numbers on Saturday at Tororo to support their stars”, Dominic, the president of Uganda Athletic Association states.
