The elected Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) president, Sarah Babirye Kityo, has been granted bail, having been remanded to Luzira Prisons yesterday.

Kityo was arraigned at the anti-corruption court yesterday after her arrest on Wednesday on accusations of funds mismanagement.

Kityo has been granted a non-cash bail of Ugx. Sixty million and asked to deposit Ugx. Seven million and her passport.

It’s alleged that the netball boss mismanaged funds to the tune of Ugx. 186 million.

For months, she has been forced out of office, with an ad-hoc normalisation committee currently running federation affairs after the National Council of Sports (NCS) withdrew the Certificate of Recognition.

The ugly events date back to the disagreements between Kityo and NCS Secretary General Patrick Ogwel after each accused the other of misappropriating funds and accountability issues.

The unending woes have affected the country’s senior netball team’s participation in continental and international events.

Over the same reasons, the She Cranes were forced into withdrawing from the African Netball Championship that is ongoing in Botswana.
