Monday, 18-112019

Warriors produced an inspired performance as they leveled their playoff semi-finals’ series with City Oilers at 1-1 at YMCA Court on Monday night.

Having lost game one on Friday, Ronnie Mutebi’s side knew that there was no room for error and took the contest to Oilers from the word go.

Michael Buzangu put the first points on the board, converting two free-throws to see Warriors 2-0 up inside the first two minutes.

Despite Oilers leveling moments later through Landry Ndikumana’s jump-shot, Warriors would take the first quarter 14-6.

They continued on the same round in the second quarter, winning it 18-14 and in the process take a 12 point lead into halftime.

Once again, Warriors took the third 19-17 and improve their advantage to 14 points going into the last 10 minutes.

Gatwech Kutai scored the first three points of the fourth quarter and ensured Warriors led by 17.

However, Oilers tried to mount a late surge as they scored 19 points in the last 7 minutes and restricted Warriors to 14 but the damage had already been done and would lose the contest 56-68.

Warriors’ victory means that the series are tied at 1-1 going into game three on Wednesday at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

Warriors had three players reach double figures in terms of scoring on Monday with Mark Opio managing 12 points, Saidi Amisi 10 and Kutai 11. Their bench came up with an impressive 27 points en route to victory.

For Oilers, they had only two players in double figures in terms of scoring with James Okello and Captain Jimmy Enabu both managing 11 points each.

In the other game played on Monday, UCU Lady Canons also levelled their series with KCCA Leopards in the Ladies division at 1-1 thanks to a hard-fought 59-57 victory.

With the game tied at 57 all, Rose Akon won it with a jump shot inside the last 24 seconds.

Akon was in inspired form on the night as she registered a double double of 15 points and 12 boards.
